Football Recap: Isabel Mendoza and Abby Acierno Pace Resurrection Defense

Resurrection fell victim to St. Francis and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 19-0 to the Spartans. The Bandits were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Resurrection didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isabel Mendoza and Abby Acierno. Mendoza is becoming a predictor of Resurrection's success: when she posts at least one interception the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when she doesn't).

Allie Sheldon was her usual excellent self, rushing for 121 yards on only 13 carries for St. Francis. Sheldon was even better on defense, picking up three sacks and making five total tackles.

Resurrection has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for St. Francis, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.

Resurrection didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-0 loss against Naperville North on the 18th. As for St. Francis, they have also already played their next game, a 13-6 victory against Lake Park on the 18th.
