Preview: Wise Pumas vs. Parkdale Panthers
Wise is 10-0 against Parkdale since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Wise Pumas will head out on the road to face off against the Parkdale Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Wise knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Parkdale likes a good challenge.
Wise posted their biggest victory yet this season on Thursday. They breezed by Bladensburg on the road to the tune of 70-40. With Wise ahead 37-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Wise can attribute much of their success to Jayson Frost, who scored eight points along with five steals, and Jamal Drummond, who scored 13 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Obase, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Parkdale can finally bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Central and snuck past 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Parkdale can attribute much of their success to Jacob Wilson, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mark Freeland, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Wise has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Parkdale, their victory ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Wise hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 68.4 points per game. However, it's not like Parkdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 52.9 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Wise strolled past Parkdale in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 79-60. Does Wise have another victory up their sleeve, or will Parkdale turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
