Softball Recap: Charlestown Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Charlestown had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Franklin County Wildcats on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Hannah Burns was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avarie Freiberger, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ella Shaw was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Charlestown's record is now 19-8. As for Franklin County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12.

Charlestown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Evansville Memorial on the 7th. Franklin County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
