Softball Game Preview: Riverton Hawks vs. Maroa-Forsyth Trojans

Riverton hasn't had much luck against Maroa-Forsyth recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will challenge the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Maroa-Forsyth took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Riverton, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 17 defeats in a row, Riverton turned things around against Hartsburg-Emden on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Stags 11-10.

The team relied heavily on Lily Lock, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Gabriella Speaks was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Riverton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .512. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Maroa-Forsyth was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-0 to Auburn, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Maroa-Forsyth's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Riverton, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-17.

Riverton's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Maroa-Forsyth, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Riverton continue to outrun the ball?

Riverton might still be hurting after the 23-0 loss they got from Maroa-Forsyth in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
