Basketball Recap: Casey-Westfield Takes a Loss

Casey-Westfield lost against Newton back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Casey-Westfield Warriors were beaten by the Newton Eagles 70-24. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Eagles are ranked 79th).

Despite the loss, Casey-Westfield still got an impressive performance from Lucy Moore, who posted eight points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most steals Moore has posted since back in December of 2024.

Casey-Westfield dropped their record down to 10-20 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Newton, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Casey-Westfield will take on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. As for Newton, they will square off against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Newton has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 211 points over their last three games.
