Basketball Recap: Payton College Prep Comes Up Short

Payton College Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Taft Eagles. The Grizzlies were probably out for revenge after losing 52-24 to them when the teams met back in November of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leading Taft to victory were Abigail Vancil and Gabriela Gonzalez. Vancil dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards, while Gonzalez dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gonzalez has scored at least a third of Taft's points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Alvarez, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Payton College Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Taft, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payton College Prep has already played their next matchup (against Senn), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Taft will challenge Perspectives Leadership/Technology at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Perspectives Leadership/Technology will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Taft surely won't give up without a fight.
