Basketball Recap: East Marion Skates Past Salem with Ease

East Marion was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Salem on Tuesday. The East Marion Eagles blew past the Salem Wildcats 61-28. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 70-10 on January 10th.

East Marion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brian Foxworth, who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points in addition to six assists and four steals. That's the most assists Foxworth has posted since back in January of 2024. Donte Newson was another key player, going 7 for 10 on his way to 15 points and three steals.

East Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

East Marion's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. As for Salem, they are on a 40-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-20.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Resurrection Catholic the next time they take the court. East Marion will host Resurrection Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Salem will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
