Buchanan had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was the Buchanan Bears who were credited with the victory on Tuesday. The Buchanan Bears got it done in the shootout by posting seven goals to the Madera South Stallions's six. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Stallions are ranked 174th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carter Brandl and Jett Baker scored both of Buchanan's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 11 goals.

The win made it two in a row for Buchanan and bumps their season record up to 16-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored six goals over those two matchups. As for Madera South, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.

Buchanan didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-1 defeat against Clovis North on the 20th. Madera South does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
