Basketball Recap: Jesse Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roy over Woods Cross

Roy managed to keep up with Woods Cross until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Roy Royals came up short against the Woods Cross Wildcats, falling 68-45. The Royals have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Roy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jesse Jones, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Simmons also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Elliot Bendinger had a dynamite game for Woods Cross, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Bendinger a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Hunter Jackson, who posted ten points in addition to six assists and six steals.

Roy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Woods Cross, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roy will welcome Bountiful at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bountiful will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Roy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woods Cross, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Woods Cross' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Northridge has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
