Softball Game Preview: Newport Wildcats vs. Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts

Newport hasn't had much luck against Lloyd Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Juggernauts at 5:30 p.m. Newport has given up an average of 21.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newport is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Ludlow, falling 17-2.

Meanwhile, Lloyd Memorial earned a 14-10 victory over Bellevue on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Juggernauts.

Layla Laudick made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Laudick was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Lloyd Memorial got a massive performance out of Railynn Brown, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs Brown has posted since back in May of 2024. Lorelei Tomlinson was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Lloyd Memorial's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Newport, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.
