Softball Recap: Goshen Central Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Goshen Central is still undefeated this season after their contest against Washingtonville on Friday, but Washingtonville came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Gladiators came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Wizards. This was payback for the Gladiators, who suffered a 5-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Anna Mayo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Mayo was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Mia Antolino and Sophia Springer did most of the damage at the plate: Antolino went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Springer went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was Antolino's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Jordan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Goshen Central's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.5 runs across that stretch. As for Washingtonville, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Goshen Central is set to square off against their familiar foe Warwick at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gladiators 3.6, the Wildcats 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Washingtonville will take on rival Valley Central at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
