Recap: Boone Braves vs. Oviedo Lions

The Boone Braves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 66-50 bruising from Oviedo. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Boone of the 63-53 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Boone saw an underclassman step up: Makauri Massey scored 15 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Massey scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Lian Hernandez, who scored 13 points.

Oviedo was led to victory by Alex Harper and Cameron Bryant. Harper scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals, while Bryant scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Haverkamp, who scored ten points.

Boone now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Oviedo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Boone and Tohopekaliga will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Tohopekaliga will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Boone is ranked 118th). As for Oviedo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East River at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
