Baseball Game Preview: Hough Huskies vs. Charlotte Christian Knights

The Hough Huskies will be taking part in a tournament against the Charlotte Christian Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hough is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Hough is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since March 13th on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Legion Collegiate Academy, sneaking past 9-8.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. They blew past East Mecklenburg 8-0.

Ivan Andino was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other pitching news, Russ Berger looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Derek Vazquez and Owen Farrell did most of the damage at the plate: Vazquez scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Farrell scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Farrell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Drew Darling was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Charlotte Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hough, their record is now 14-3.
