Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Sanford's Winning Streak

Sanford and Sedgwick County squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Sanford had to settle for second. They fell 60-47 to the Sedgwick County Cougars. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Mustangs, who until this match were averaging 27.41 points allowed.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooklynn Reynolds, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Claire Crowther, who put up 11 points.

Leading Sedgwick County to victory were Abigail Dille and Lainee Nein. Dille almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards, while Nein almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Nein has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Piper Buettenback was another key player, putting up four points.

The defeat snapped Sanford's winning streak at 20 games and leaves them with a 24-3 record. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.8 points. As for Sedgwick County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

Sanford wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-38 win against Akron on the 15th. As for Sedgwick County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-29 loss against Merino on the 15th.
