Softball Recap: Dixie County Comes Up Short

Dixie County had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 5-13 to make it five. They fell 10-7 to the Union County Fighting Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-3 back in March.

Tearra Collins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Union County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

On Union County's side, Shelby Stewart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Lillyenne Mayhew was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jessa Dekle, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Dixie County will face off against Chiefland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union County, they will square off against Williston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
