Basketball Preview: Hoisington Cardinals vs. Smoky Valley Vikings

Hoisington and the Vikings are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Hoisington Cardinals will be playing at home against the Smoky Valley Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Hoisington made easy work of the Greenbacks and carried off a 52-32 victory. Given Hoisington's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Greenbacks are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jordyn Boxberger was a one-man wrecking crew for Hoisington as she almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Boxberger is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Mooney, who scored nine points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Smoky Valley didn't have too much trouble with the Panthers at home on Friday as they won 51-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Smoky Valley.

Hoisington pushed their record up to 10-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Smoky Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Hoisington skirted past the Vikings 49-46 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Hoisington repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
