Basketball Recap: Caledonia-Mumford Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

Caledonia-Mumford won the last time they faced Avon and things went their way on Friday too. The Caledonia-Mumford Raiders came out on top against the Avon Braves by a score of 44-32. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Braves are ranked 414th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Avon still got an impressive performance from Maria Geary, who posted 14 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Fries, who put up five points and five rebounds.

Caledonia-Mumford pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Avon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caledonia-Mumford will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Gananda Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. As for Avon, they will venture away from home to face off against Franklin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
