Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. United South Panthers

Los Fresnos has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the United South Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Los Fresnos focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.

Los Fresnos has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 23 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Roma 77-34 at home. With Los Fresnos ahead 44-13 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Los Fresnos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gio Galvan, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. The contest was Galvan's 22nd in a row with at least ten points. Jj Salazar was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six assists and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, United South was able to grind out a solid victory over Somerset on Thursday, taking the game 47-36. Given United South's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Somerset is ranked 467th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Los Fresnos' win bumped their record up to 18-5. As for United South, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Los Fresnos came up short against United South in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 49-42. Can Los Fresnos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
