Football Recap: Ra' Vonnie King and Dori Morgan Pace Lakewood Defense

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Lakewood's offense. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (19-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Green Devils are ranked 124th).

Even if they lost, Lakewood's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Ra' Vonnie King and Dori Morgan, who racked up all five sacks between them. Morgan is becoming a predictor of Lakewood's success: when she posts at least two sacks the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when she doesn't).

Ellie Swain looked great while leading her team to the win, picking up 48 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 56 yards on only six carries. She didn't just play on offense: she also picked up two sacks and made ten total tackles.

Lakewood dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for St. Petersburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Lakewood wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 19-0 victory against Clearwater Central Catholic on the 3rd. As for St. Petersburg, they have also already played their next match, a 7-6 win against Gibbs on the 3rd.
