Football Game Preview: Thomas A. Edison Owls vs. Audenried Rockets

Two dominant backs in Ahmir Ponder and Sa'Deer Thorton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Thomas A. Edison Owls are taking a road trip to square off against the Audenried Rockets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Thomas A. Edison sitting on seven straight victories and Audenried on five.

Thomas A. Edison will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Owls breezed past Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech to the tune of 48-16 on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Owls just coasted through the last quarter.

Thomas A. Edison can attribute much of their success to Cashmere Thomas, who rushed for 18 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 198 yards and a pair of TDs on only 16 passes. Those 198 passing yards gave Thomas a new career-high. Dre Smith was Thomas' top target, picking up 70 receiving yards and one score.

Thomas A. Edison's defense stepped up as well, laying out Sameir Anderson eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Tajir Sheppard and Sajae Smith, who racked up four sacks between them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Audenried). They blew past Samuel Fels, posting a 44-8 win. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won five matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Thomas A. Edison's record is now 7-0. As for Audenried, their record now sits at 5-2.
