Basketball Recap: NSU University Falls Short of Cardinal Gibbons in the Playoffs

NSU University and Cardinal Gibbons squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but NSU University had to settle for second. They came up short against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs, falling 58-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Sharks have suffered since November 19, 2024.

NSU University lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Xavier Osecola, who posted ten points along with five assists and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Moshe, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, NSU University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

NSU University's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Cardinal Gibbons, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-4.

NSU University and Cardinal Gibbons should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. NSU University (ranked 98th) will meet Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) (ranked 280th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. NSU University is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Cardinal Gibbons will square off against Carol City at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday up 334 places (20 vs. 354).
