Basketball Recap: Herscher's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Herscher can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They came out on top against the Streator Bulldogs by a score of 37-28. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-34 back in December of 2024.

Streator's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Gwaltney, who posted 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Leah Krohe, who had eight points and 18 boards. Gwaltney is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Madelyn Martin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Herscher's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Streator, their defeat was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-20.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Herscher will venture away from home to take on Tri-Point at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Tri-Point will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Herscher surely won't give up without a fight. Streator has already played their next game (against LaSalle-Peru), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
