Baseball Recap: River Dell's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

River Dell had lost six games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-11 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Cliffside Park Raiders 14-1. The Golden Hawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 32-7).

River Dell got a great performance from Michael DeGroat as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave DeGroat a new career-high.

On the hitting side, River Dell let Chris Kelm and Nathan Silverstein run wild. Kelm went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Silverstein went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Silverstein has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Michael Porco, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

River Dell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

As for Cliffside Park, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. The game marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

On Cliffside Park's side, Breidy Marine was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. River Dell will be taking part in a tournament against New Milford at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. As for Cliffside Park, they will venture away from home to face off against Wood-Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
