Baseball Recap: Taft Wins Going Away Against Mcfarland

Taft won the last time they faced McFarland and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 18-1 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Cash Clark and William Espinoza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Clark pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Espinoza pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Clark went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Espinoza went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Clark is becoming a predictor of Taft's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-13 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Clark, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blayne Farkas, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Taft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Taft and bumps their season record up to 9-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for McFarland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13-1 record this season.
