Sunset Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Tasin Made His Presence Known in Maranatha Christian's 27-21 Loss

Starting off the list is Maranatha Christian's Aaron Tasin, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. Tasin picked up two sacks and made 15 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Tasin must have Tri-City Christian's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Tasin made 14 total tackles (3.0 for loss) the last time he and Tri-City Christian duked it out back in October of 2023.

Dakobi Coleman Puts an End to O'farrell Charter's Losing Streak on Friday

Thanks in part to Dakobi Coleman, O'Farrell Charter said goodbye to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season. Coleman rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 143 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes, good enough for us to rate the performance as the best he's had all season long. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in August.

Rock Academy had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Coleman it was a similar story. When Coleman last faced the Warriors back in October of 2023, he rushed for 191 yards and a touchdown.

Joel Valverde Delivers Electric Effort Vs Maranatha Christian

Tri-City Christian picked up their third consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to Joel Valverde. Valverde did his part (and then some), throwing for 337 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 50 yards for the 'W'. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

On the year, Valverde has thrown 19 touchdowns while averaging 173.8 passing yards per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after eight games last season, he had six passing touchdowns.

Grayson Kennedy Makes It Two for Maranatha Christian

The second Maranatha Christian player making an appearance here is Grayson Kennedy, and for good reason. He rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Kennedy and Maranatha Christian will venture away from home to face off against Rock Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Warriors, probably because Kennedy had a solid game then too: he rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown. Can he match (or beat) that performance?

O'farrell Charter's Losing Streak Is No More Thanks to Saina Tafilele

Saina Tafilele helped snap O'Farrell Charter's 17-game losing streak dating back to last season. Tafilele was unstoppable on Friday, rushing for 21 yards.

This season, Tafilele has averaged 24.6 rushing yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he was only averaging five receiving yards per game. This year he is averaging 11.29 receiving yards.
