Basketball Preview: Shadow Ridge Mustangs vs. Legacy Longhorns

Shadow Ridge is 2-8 against the Longhorns since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Shadow Ridge Mustangs will be staying on the road to face off against the Legacy Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Shadow Ridge was handed a three-point defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Warriors on Thursday. Shadow Ridge claimed a resounding 69-37 victory over the Warriors on the road.

Meanwhile, Legacy had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.2 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They took down Chaparral 58-44. Given Legacy's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Cowboys are ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Legacy relied on the efforts of Rahjon Chambers, who scored 16 points, and Aaron Duke, who scored 13 points. Chambers hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. D'Anthony Rabb was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Shadow Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Legacy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-7.

Shadow Ridge didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Longhorns in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shadow Ridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
