Softball Recap: Nettleton Tigers vs. South Pontotoc Cougars
After losing to South Pontotoc the last time they met, Nettleton decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Nettleton Tigers came out on top against the South Pontotoc Cougars by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Bailey Payne made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she's hit this season.

In other batting news, Zion Seals was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Savannah Harlow, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Nettleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Pontotoc only posted a batting average of .231.
Nettleton's record now sits at 4-2-1. As for South Pontotoc, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. As for South Pontotoc, they will square off against Pontotoc at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
