St. John and Shrewsbury are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Pioneers are taking a road trip to take on the Colonials at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. John's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Shrewsbury's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

St. John's is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: St. John's Prep, who was ranked 20th at the time (St. John's was ranked first). The Pioneers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Pioneers have lost by just one run.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury came up short against Auburn on Tuesday and fell 6-1. The Colonials have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

St. John's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4. As for Shrewsbury, their loss dropped their record down to 14-3.

St. John's beat Shrewsbury 8-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
