Softball Recap: Benet Academy Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Benet Academy waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Nazareth Academy Roadrunners a 7-0 shutout. The Redwings have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Roadrunners, too.

Sophia Rosner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Baer, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Isabella Iovinelli was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Benet Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Benet Academy pushed their record up to 12-14 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Nazareth Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-12.

Benet Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Roadrunners: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
