Baseball Recap: Riverdale Sets Scoring Season-High Against Orion

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverdale). They blew past the Orion Chargers 15-4 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won four in a row.

Landen Peterson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Riverdale is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-7 otherwise. Peterson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Huffman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five stolen bases, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Riverdale's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyler Nadolson, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Riverdale lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Riverdale's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Orion, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverdale will host Bureau Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Storm will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. As for Orion, they will face off against ROWVA/Williamsfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
