Basketball Recap: Monticello Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ali Weidner and Sarah Cresap

After a string of four wins, Monticello's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to the Athens Warriors 53-48.

Monticello's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sarah Cresap, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 16 points and four steals, and Ali Weidner, who posted 16 points and six boards. What's more, Cresap also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Megan Allen, who had eight points.

Athens got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lydia Hart out in front who earned 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Addie Stadsholt was another key player, going 6 of 8 en route to 15 points and eight boards.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Athens, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-10.

Monticello didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-39 loss against Pontiac on the 3rd. As for Athens, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-35 defeat against Maroa-Forsyth on the 3rd.
