Volleyball Recap: Kathryn Heidelberg Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat the First Academy

Steinbrenner won the last time they faced The First Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Royals 2-1.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steinbrenner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kathryn Heidelberg, who had 12 digs and two aces. Those two aces gave Heidelberg a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Civitillo, who had 21 assists and seven digs.

Despite the loss, The First Academy still got an impressive performance from Selah Kohler, who had 18 digs and two aces. With that strong performance, Kohler is now averaging an impressive 10.5 digs per game. Kylie Beavers also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Steinbrenner has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for The First Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-2.

Steinbrenner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-1 defeat against Newsome on the 18th. As for The First Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Trinity Prep on the 16th.
