Recap: Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers vs. Kennedy Catholic Gaels
There's no place like home for the Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road two weeks ago. They took down Kennedy Catholic 26-12 on Saturday. Given Mt. St. Michael Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. St. Michael Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nelson Perez, who picked up 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Perez was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Marc Pearson jr., who threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Kennedy Catholic still got an impressive performance from Israel Centeno-Johnson, who picked up 86 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Mt. St. Michael Academy has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 8-2 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Cardinal Spellman and 3-8 Kennedy Catholic (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.2% over those games). As for Kennedy Catholic, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Mt. St. Michael Academy will face off against Kennedy Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Kennedy Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Saturday. As for they, they will face off against Mt. St. Michael Academy at 7:00 p.m.
