Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Gators vs. McGuffey Highlanders

The Gateway Gators will take on the McGuffey Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Gateway made easy work of Penn Hills and carried off an 18-2 win. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Cameron Gottschalk looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Myles Beavin was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jon Saunders, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penn Hills only posted an OBP of .429.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday McGuffey sidestepped Ligonier Valley for a 6-4 win.

The team relied heavily on Preston Hornak, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. Sam Stout was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

McGuffey's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-1-1. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
