Baseball Recap: Sodus Spartans vs. Geneva Panthers
Sodus lost to Geneva back in April of 2019, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Spartans came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Wade DeRue spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evan Laird and Parker Orbaker did most of the damage at the plate: Laird got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and one run, while Orbaker went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Orbaker a new career-high. Brody Crandell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Sodus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Geneva only posted a batting average of .269.
Sodus' record now sits at 11-2. As for Geneva, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 9-3 record.
Sodus and Geneva should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 120th) will meet Finney (ranked 592nd) at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Geneva will square off against Mynderse Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (155 vs. 594).
