Basketball Recap: Addeline Sanders commands the offense for Indians win

Basketball Recap: Lawrenceville Indians vs. Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine

The Lawrenceville Indians had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 51-38 victory over Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Lawrenceville also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Lawrenceville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addeline Sanders, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sanders is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenidee Boldt, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marissa Neeley, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Neeley pulled down eight or more rebounds. Alyssa Tipton was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.

Lawrenceville's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-16. As for Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.

Lawrenceville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Richland County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine will take on the Bluestreaks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Martinsville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
