Basketball Recap: John Paul II Centurions vs. Incarnate Word Academy Angels

John Paul II was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 89-13 loss at the hands of the Incarnate Word Academy Angels. While losing is never fun, the Centurions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1645th, while the Angels are ranked 788th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Incarnate Word Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kyle Owen, who went 12 of 16 en route to 27 points and six boards. Those 27 points gave Owen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Talon Chanyaman, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 17 points along with five rebounds and five steals.

John Paul II's loss dropped their record down to 3-23. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 17-13 record this season.

John Paul II wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-28 defeat against Geneva on the 28th. Incarnate Word Academy has also already played their next contest, a 49-42 win against Annapolis Christian Academy on the 28th.
