Football Recap: Briarwood Academy Falls Short of Brentwood in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Briarwood Academy can now relate to. They were outmatched by the Brentwood War Eagles and fell 42-14. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the War Eagles are ranked 82nd).

Despite the loss, Briarwood Academy still got an impressive performance from Cutler Fleming, who threw for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 54 yards.

Brentwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Baylor Cobb out in front who rushed for 89 yards and two TDs on only six carries, and also threw for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 passes. Those 89 rushing yards gave Cobb a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abe Williams, who gained 187 total yards and two touchdowns.

Briarwood Academy's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3. As for Brentwood, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-1.

Briarwood Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brentwood, they will challenge Southwest Georgia Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
