Baseball Game Preview: Pius X Thunderbolts vs. Fremont Tigers

Pius X has gone a perfect 3-0 against Fremont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Thunderbolts will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Pius X will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Monday, Pius X narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Skutt Catholic 5-4.

Pius X got a great performance from Tanner Charf as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Charf has become a key player for the Thunderbolts: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Kai Vanis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Pius X's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Samuel Aschwege, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Fremont challenged Norfolk on Monday. The Tigers came up short against the Panthers, falling 10-4. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Fremont saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carver Kroeger, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Aiden Vacha also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Fremont's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Pius X, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.

Everything went Pius X's way against Fremont in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Pius X made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbolts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
