Basketball Game Preview: North Putnam Cougars vs. Greencastle Tiger Cubs

The North Putnam Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Greencastle Tiger Cubs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Putnam will be strutting in after a win while Greencastle will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row dating back to last season, North Putnam turned things around against Fountain Central on Saturday. They strolled past the Mustangs with points to spare, taking the game 42-28.

Meanwhile, Greencastle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to Northview on the road by a 72-55 margin. While losing is never fun, the Tiger Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Knights are ranked 17th).

North Putnam will have to contain Sam Gooch as he made an impact in Greencastle's last game. He went 6 for 10 on his way to 20 points and three steals. Taygan McRoberts was another key player, putting up nine points.

North Putnam's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-10. As for Greencastle, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-5.

North Putnam took their win against Greencastle when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 61-37. Will North Putnam repeat their success, or does Greencastle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
