Raceland fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Boyd County on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 16-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Even if the Rams couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Bryna Wellman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Davanna Grubb was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Russell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Paintsville 11-1 on Thursday. With that victory, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Karson Honaker made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Honaker was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Oborne, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madilynn Hayes, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Raceland's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-8. As for Russell, their win bumped their record up to 9-15.
