Softball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport fell victim to Stayton and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 18-0 to the Eagles. The match marked the first time this year in which the Cubs were not able to get on the board.

This is the second loss in a row for Newport and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Stayton, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-4 record.

Coming up, Newport will venture away from home to square off against North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.8 runs per game on average), something the Cubs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Stayton, they will square off against Philomath at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
