The Eagles will face off against the Dons at 10:30 a.m. Spanish Fork took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Maple Mountain, who comes in off a win.
Maple Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Hunter by a score of 9-5.
Kyla Donegan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brinley Cherrington, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Daphnee Pagano, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Maple Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hunter struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork faced Box Elder in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Dons fell 6-1 to the Bees. The Dons were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the four games prior), but the Bees' pitcher proved too tough.
Lia Higginson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Maple Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season. As for Spanish Fork, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-8.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maple Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maple Mountain couldn't quite finish off Spanish Fork in their previous meeting back in April and fell 7-5. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
