Baseball Game Preview: St. Martin Yellow Jackets vs. Stone Tomcats

The St. Martin Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to challenge the Stone Tomcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stone took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Martin, who comes in off a win.

St. Martin lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Gautier, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. St. Martin's pitchers stepped up to hand Gautier a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday. While the Yellow Jackets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The team relied heavily on Caleb Lawrence, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Will Roebuck, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Stone was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Poplarville, falling 12-4.

St. Martin's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Stone, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

St. Martin came out on top in a nail-biter against Stone when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Martin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
