Baseball Recap: Woodland Regional Now 9-3 over Last 12 Games

Woodland Regional proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Naugatuck Greyhounds 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted against the Greyhounds since April 22, 2022.

The result came thanks to Charlie Napoleone's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Woodland Regional is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Woodland Regional's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Michael Landrigan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Landrigan has posted since back in April.

Woodland Regional is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Naugatuck, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Woodland Regional is set to square off against their familiar foe St. Paul Catholic at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Naugatuck will challenge rival Holy Cross at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Greyhounds 4, the Crusaders 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
