Preview: Piedmont Academy Cougars vs. Gatewood Gators
Piedmont Academy has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Gatewood Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Piedmont Academy had to suffer through a rough 42-3 loss at the hands of Brentwood. Piedmont Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-3.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Gatewood was not quite Edmund Burke Academy's equal in the second half on Friday. Gatewood fell to Edmund Burke Academy 20-14.
Piedmont Academy's loss was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.4 points per game. As for Gatewood, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.
Piedmont Academy strolled past Gatewood in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 42-28. Will Piedmont Academy repeat their success, or does Gatewood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
