Baseball Game Preview: Southeast Spartans vs. Santa Fe South Saints

Southeast hasn't had much luck against Santa Fe South recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will host the Saints at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with 12 losses in a row, Southeast turned things around against Capitol Hill on Thursday. They never let the Redwolves get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Spartans not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Nano Soliz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Xzavier Aguilar was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe South entered their tilt with Wellston on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-2 victory.

Drew Cabrera was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Santa Fe South's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-15 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Albert Gallegos, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Santa Fe South's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-15. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Southeast, their win bumped their record up to 2-15.
