Softball Recap: Somers Comes Up Short

Somers had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-3-1 to make it four. They came up short against the Granby Memorial Bears, falling 13-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 17-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Granby Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 2-3. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Granby Memorial's part, Amanda Bristol was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Bristol has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Granby Memorial let Ashley Tetreault and Ellison Haury run wild. Tetreault fired off two home runs, three runs, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4, while Haury fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those runs were Tetreault's first of the season. Brynne Simard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Somers will host Windsor Locks at 3:45 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Granby Memorial, they are taking a road trip to challenge Thomaston at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
