Basketball Recap: Talan Vanderploog's Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Covenant Christian over High Point Baptist Academy

New Covenant Christian played a tough matchup on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the High Point Baptist Academy Eagles, falling 79-55. The loss continues a trend for the Flames in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost six in a row.

New Covenant Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talan VanderPloog, who posted 25 points. Another player making a difference was Grant Canakis, who earned 11 points and eight boards.

High Point Baptist Academy was led to victory by Mason Rogers and Nick Harris. Rogers dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Harris went 9 of 18 en route to 21 points and seven steals. With that strong performance, Rogers is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Wodicka, who had 12 points and three steals.

New Covenant Christian now has a losing record at 6-7. As for High Point Baptist Academy, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

New Covenant Christian will challenge Harrisburg Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
