Basketball Recap: Escanaba Eskymos vs. Gwinn Modeltowners

The Escanaba Eskymos were handed a three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Gwinn Modeltowners on Monday. Escanaba breezed by the Modeltowners at home to the tune of 63-31. Given Escanaba's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Modeltowners are ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Keira Maki, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Escanaba's points. Ashley Foust was another key contributor, scoring eight points.

Escanaba is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. As for Gwinn, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Escanaba won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Flivvers at 7:15 p.m. on February 6th. Kingsford will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Gwinn will take on the Miners at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
